Levaquin (levofloxacin) is intended for the treatment of a wide array of infections, including skin infections, urinary tract infections, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia and other conditions as recommended by your health care provider. If you are taking any of the following drugs make sure you report them to your health care provider: moxifloxacin, ciprofloxacin, lomefloxacin, norfloxacin, gatifloxacin, gemifloxacin, ofloxacin, nalidixic acid, or sparfloxacin. You should not combine Levaquin with blood thinners (warfarin), antidepressants, insulin, diuretics, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Tendinitis and tendon rupture are the two serious side effects sometimes developed by patients taking this drug. In both cases the tissue that connects muscles to the bones is affected – in case or tendinitis it becomes swollen while in case of tendon rupture it gets torn.

Report the following health conditions to your health care provider in case of having them: irregular heartbeat, seizures, liver disease, chest pain, slow heartbeat or low potassium levels in your blood. If you have a family history of Long QT you are not supposed to start using this drug without talking to your health care provider. This drug has been reported to make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. If you have to stay outside for a long time make sure you apply sunscreen and wear some clothes that cover your most sensitive areas. If you are allergic to the active ingredient of this medicine or do not start taking Levaquin as the same reaction is likely to happen again. The following side effects are not supposed to be reported to your health care provider as they are mild and go away soon: vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, headache, constipation and vaginal discharge.
